(1) Conductive adhesives are used in microelectronic assembly, including connecting fine wires to printed circuits, electroplated substrates, metal layers of ceramic substrates, and metal chassis; bonding wires to tube sockets; bonding components to planar holes passing through printed circuits; bonding waveguide tuning; and hole repair.
(2) Conductive adhesives are used to replace spot soldering where the soldering temperature exceeds the tolerance of the oxide film formed by the solder. As a substitute for tin-lead solder, conductive adhesives are mainly used in: telephone and mobile communication systems; broadcasting, television, and computer industries; the automotive industry; medical equipment; and solving electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) issues.
(3) Another application of conductive adhesives is in the bonding of electrode sheets to magnetic crystals in ferroelectric devices. Conductive adhesives can replace solder flux and the deposition of crystals due to the soldering temperature. Bonding battery terminals is another use of conductive adhesives when the soldering temperature is unfavorable.
(4) Conductive adhesives can form joints of sufficient strength, therefore, they can be used as structural adhesives.
(5) Application Status of Conductive Adhesives at Home and Abroad - Weifeng Conductive Adhesives: A Rising Star In the domestic market, conductive adhesives used in some high-end fields are mainly imported: Ablistick and 3M from the United States almost dominate the entire IC and LED field, while Sumitomo from Japan and Yihua from Taiwan also have involvement in these fields. Three-Bond from Japan controls the entire application of conductive adhesives in quartz crystal resonators. Domestically produced conductive adhesives are mainly used in some mid-to-low-end products, and this market is mainly dominated by the Metal Research Institute.
A room-temperature storage conductive adhesive has emerged in China, representing a breakthrough from traditional conductive adhesives. This product achieves the unique performance of being stored at room temperature for three months. When used on a dispensing machine, it can meet the process requirement of not needing to wash the adhesive tray for two months.
My country's electronics industry is introducing and developing SMT production lines on a large scale, and conductive adhesives will inevitably have broad application prospects in my country. However, my country's research in this area started relatively late, and the high-performance conductive adhesives required mainly rely on imports. Therefore, it is necessary to vigorously strengthen the research and application development on the influence of factors such as bonding temperature, curing time, bonding pressure, and particle content on the reliability of conductive adhesives, and to prepare new types of conductive adhesives in order to improve the international competitiveness of my country's electronic product packaging industry.
